McDonald’s McChicken Sandwiches already come with a slice of cheese as standard and their teriyaki burger standard menu item is basically a McMuffin sausage patty dipped in teriyaki sauce – but now and for a limited time you can also get a different kind of pork burger. A popular special from the 90s has just been relaunched at McDonald’s restaurants in Japan that combines that with another classic Japanese food item – the pork katsu. A katsu, or cutlet, is basically a pork or chicken (or occasionally tuna) patty deep fried in crunchy breadcrumbs. In this instance, the cheese katsu burger is a pork katsu, with a cheese filling, in a regular bun with some shredded cabbage, and mayonaisse and katsu sauce (a sort of sweet sauce somewhere between hoisin and bbq sauce).

The Cheese Katsu Burger is available now (November 2016) on it’s own (390 yen) or in a meal (690 yen) at McDonald’s throughout Japan, for a limited time.
